4/22/13 Minutes


-->A huge thanks to everyone who helped out with the Plant Sale last week. We raised $75 to benefit the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center. As Erin said at tonight's meeting, the animals thank you!
 
-->The club will be hosting a Bake Sale Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. We still need help packaging goods tomorrow at 3PM. Below is the schedule for all three days. If you were not able to sign up or need to change your time, please let an officer know!

4/8/13 Minutes


-->The zoo trip is this Saturday (April 13th). Everyone going will meet in the parking lot between Smith Hall and Marrow Library at 6:50 AM. We will be leaving by 7 AM, arriving at the zoo at 10 AM.
IMPORTANT: The price of the tickets are $5, parking is $8 so split the cost between everyone in the vehicle.

4/1/13 Minutes


--->We will be going to the Cincinnati Zoo on Saturday, April 13th. If you have not signed up or need to take your name off the list, contact an officer! We will be meeting that morning in the parking lot between Smith Hall and Marrow Library at 6:50 AM. We will leave promptly at 7:00 AM. We will arrive at the zoo at approximately 10 AM and stay all day. The Biology Club will not be paying for tickets, but will pay for dinner that evening. The cost of tickets are $5 and parking will be $8 for each vehicle - so everyone in the vehicle split the cost ($2).
 
NOTE: If you are going and need a ride, let an officer know who you would like to ride with!
 
---> Earth Day at Marshall is Tuesday, April 16th. We are going to need volunteers from 10 AM - 3 PM to help with our station. If you are available, let an officer know! We will also need help setting up seed/fortunes a few days before!

-->Biology Club t-shirts and bracelets are on sale this week. You have until next week's meeting to turn in your order and money. T-shirts are $10 and bracelets $2. If you have a lot of friends asking to buy t-shirts, ask Tuesday Moats for an order form. Contact an officer to place your order :)
IMPORTANT! We will NOT be ordering extra t-shirts. You must pre-order this week.

Here are the minutes from today's meeting:  

• Michael says 'Thanks' for allowing him to speak with us today on behalf of Retton & Murphy.
• Thanks everyone who helped at the Brain Expo!  A special thanks to those who helped set up and take down.
• Here is the design for the t-shirt that we voted on: 
^the t-shirt will be green and have slightly different formatting.
• Start telling your friends about the t-shirts and bracelets; I will bring order forms to the meeting on Monday 3/25.
• It has been decided that we will go to the Cincinnati Zoo on April 13th! Let me know if you want to go ASAP.
• If anyone has pictures from the Brain Expo, please email them to Erin Balser.

A few points from this weeks meeting:
 
-->The Brain Expo is this Friday, March 8th, from 9 AM - 2 PM. We will be setting up on March 7th at 5 PM (should take about 2-3 hours) in the Don Morris Room in the Student Center. We will also be help take down right after the Brain Expo (should take 1-1.5 hours). Below is a list of members volunteered to help set up and take down. Contact an officer if you cannot help or would like to add your name to the list.

A few things from this weeks meeting.
 
-->If you would like to help set up or take down the Brain Expo, let an officer know. You do not have to actually volunteer at the expo to help. Set up is March 7th at 5:00 PM and take down is right after the expo on March 8th at 2 PM
 
-->The club is asking everyone to think of t-shirt designs they like
 
-->If you went to the aquarium, take the survey to let us know what you thought
 
-->If anyone has pictures from the aquarium trip and would like to share, email them to Erin (balser7@live.marshall.edu) or add them to the facebook page
 
-->Next week is greenhouse day! We will meet in our regular room (S382) and walk to the greenhouse around 5:10 PM

Just a friendly reminder that the Newport Aquarium trip is this Saturday! If you are attending, meet in the parking lot between Smith Hall and Morrow Library at 6:50 AM. The rides will be leaving by 7:00 AM. Non-members are required to pay the group fee of $17.00. Members should bring $17.00 just in case and food money.

Newport Aquarium Trip

Just got back from our trip to the Newport Aquarium! I had a great time, and I hope everyone else did too :)

2/11/13 Minutes

Here are the minutes from this week's meeting.
-->The Newport aquarium trip is on schedule for Saturday, February 23rd
-->For the club to pay for you, you must volunteer at one of our fundraisers!!
-->The tickets are $17 with our group rate; the club will be paying for all members who volunteer at a fundraiser.
However, bring $17 just in case. If you have to pay at the aquarium, we will reimburse you
-->Non-members just pay the $17
-->We will be leaving around 7 AM and still need drivers (Let an officer know if you can drive)
-->You may sign up for the trip or remove your name from the list until Monday, February 18th
-->We will be going to the greenhouse at next week's meeting to pot plants
-->So far, we have cosmos, nasturtiums, zinnias and Mexican sunflowers
-->We would appreciate help from anyone who has experience growing these plants
-->Volunteers are needed for the Brain Expo on Friday, March 8th
-->You can volunteer anytime between 9 AM and 2 PM
-->Let an officer know if you would like to volunteer
-->Bracelets are in! If you can't make a meeting to get yours, an officer can meet you with your bracelet!

A few things from tonight's meeting:


-->The trip to Newport Aquarium is scheduled for Saturday, February 23rd. A sign up sheet was passed around at the meeting. If you were not able to sign up but want to attend, contact an officer. The club will be paying a portion of member's cost, which will be announced closer to the date. Members CAN bring non-members.


-->The trip to WVU professional schools has been cancelled


-->The trip to Columbus Zoo has been moved to Saturday, April 13th. If you have an questions/concerns, contact an officer. More information to come.


-->We will be participating in Earth Day by selling plants. If anyone has any suggestions for plants that are easier to grow and take care of, let us know. Also, we will be meeting in the greenhouse every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month.


-->We are also participating in the Brain Expo.


-->If you have not filled out an information sheet, contact an officer. Bracelets will be in soon.

Welcome back!

Welcome back for the spring semester! All of us at the biology club hope you had a great break! This semester we are changing the requirements to be a member. Members are required to pay a $3 fee, which gets you a glow in the dark bracelet that says "I <3 Biology". There are also information sheets to be filled out.

This semester is going to be packed full of fun trips! Some suggestions are an overnight zoo trip, the Bodies exhibit, WVU professional schools and a trip to the aquarium. We're also considering doing activities for the Brain Expo and Earth Day. Email officers or comment to let us know what you think!
